What is the Gospel?

Is there anything that could be more important to think about than eternity? One day you are going to die. The Bible teaches that there are only two possible destinations for every person: eternity worshipping God as you were created to do, or eternity separated from Him in a place called Hell.

The gospel is the good news of how you can have a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Maybe you have never heard this. Maybe you have heard it before but did not thoughtfully consider it. Or it could be that you don’t even believe in the Bible and so all of this seems irrelevant. Whatever your situation, this news is the most important information you could ever receive, and I encourage you to think seriously about it as you hear what God has to say about your condition. This good news is outlined below.

God is the Creator of All

“Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they existed and were created.”   Revelation 4:11

God is the Creator and ruling sustainer of all things. He created the world and everything that lives in it, and therefore He has the right to rule and exercise authority over us. God is a perfectly holy, good, loving, righteous and wise King Who always desires and knows what is best for His creation. God knows our purpose because He designed and made us. God created human beings in His own image, and He created us with for the purpose of worshipping Him as we live under His rule.

We Have Rejected God

“No one understands; no one seeks for God… for all have sinned and  fall short of the glory of God.”  Romans 3:11, 23

We have chosen to rebel against God as our King. Any form of rejecting God is defined in the Bible as sin. Sin separates us from God, and this separation manifests itself in many ways: death, hurt, injustice, suffering, sickness, poverty, broken relationships, our internal struggles, and any other form of brokenness is a result of sin. The world doesn’t function like God intended it to because we have rejected His rule.

This rebellion is why we will eventually have God’s holy wrath poured out on us in hell, a lake of fire where we will experience conscious torment forever. The depth of an offense is determined in part by the honor and position of the person offended, and because God is a holy King of infinite worth, our rebellion against Him is an act of treason that we deserve eternal separation from Him for.

“It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment…” Hebrews 9:27

God Provided a Way for Us to Be Saved

God does not desire anyone to spend eternity separated from Him. But we can do nothing about our sin and our helpless, desperate position before God. God loves us and sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live a perfect life that we couldn’t live and pay the penalty for our sins. Jesus never sinned, but He died a terrible death on a cross and took the punishment God requires in our place. In the ultimate act of love, the Son of God who created the universe came down as a man to die for the very people who rejected Him.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16

“He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.”  Isaiah 53:5

But Jesus didn’t remain dead. Three days after He was crucified, God resurrected Him, demonstrating that the death of Jesus satisfied the penalty required for sin. Jesus is alive now and forevermore, seated on the throne of heaven, and He extends the offer of salvation to everyone.

God’s Promise to All Who Call on Him

Here is what you must do to be saved:

  1. Acknowledge that God is the rightful authority in your life.
  2. Confess your sin to God and turn away from your sin, submitting your entire life to Jesus Christ.
  3. Ask the Lord Jesus Christ to save you.

God loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. He is patient and kind towards you, desiring you to turn from your sin and place your faith in His Son. He will forgive your sins and give you eternal life.

Salvation isn’t something that only affects you once and then you move on. It is the beginning of a life of obedience to Jesus Christ. Jesus requires that you be willing to renounce everything in your life in order to follow Him: He wants everything. He is Lord, and He transforms people so they will then go and tell the gospel to others so they may be saved. But He is good and will never ask you to do anything that is not good for you, and He will never leave you or turn away from you.

Your Response

This is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Now that you have been told the truth of the gospel, you must respond by deciding. You can receive this as the truth and accept it, place your faith in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross, and God promises He will save you. God will be with you and you will experience the fulfillment that only comes from having a relationship with Him, and you will experience that relationship for all eternity.

Your other option is to reject the gospel message and continue to live in rebellion against God. You will experience life in this broken world not having a relationship with your Creator, and you will spend eternity experiencing His holy wrath in hell without life, love or relationship.

I do not want you to make a decision because you feel pressured or emotional. I do not believe that God would want you to make a decision for that reason either. God loves you, and He desires that you willingly enter into a relationship with Him. However, I urge you – even beg you – to consider what has been written on this page. It is the truth, whether you choose to accept it or not; and Jesus Christ is still Lord of all whether you surrender to Him or not.

If you want to surrender your life to Jesus Christ and put your faith in His sacrifice, all you must do is pray, confessing your life of rebellion and asking Jesus to save you. Praying is talking to God. In your own words, tell God that you know He is the one who has ultimate authority, that you acknowledge and confess your sin, and ask Jesus to save you. If you pray that to God and truly mean it in your heart, then God promises to save you.

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”  Romans 10:9

What’s Next?

If you put your faith in Christ, then the next step is to begin reading your Bible and find a church that believes the Bible is 100% true. God wants us to be a part of a church so we can live life together with them and advance the gospel for the spread of His kingdom. God doesn’t save people so they can have an easy life. God saves people so they can worship Him and tell the gospel to others so they can do the same. So now that you’re a disciple of Christ, read His Word to deepen your relationship with Him. Live with other members of God’s family and be what He designed His church to be. Go and tell His good news.

We at this ministry would love nothing more than for you to submit your life to Christ and be saved. But if you are unsure, then think about what you have read and consider the consequences of accepting or rejecting the gospel. Your eternity is in consideration.
